Using Budget Tracker in a browser or as an installed web app

Budget Tracker works as a web app. Learn why browser and installed-app storage can differ and what to check before moving your records.

Browser tab or installed app

Budget Tracker can run in a supported browser and can also be installed as a progressive web app where the browser/platform allows it. An installed app can feel more like a standalone application while still using web technology.

Storage is tied to the app context

On some platforms, especially iPhone and iPad, Safari and an installed Home Screen web app can behave as separate storage contexts. Records visible in one context should not be assumed to exist in the other.

Install first when possible

If you intend to use Budget Tracker mainly as an installed app, installing it before entering a large amount of data can avoid confusion later. If you already have records in the browser, use the app's supported migration or backup/restore workflow rather than assuming the installed copy can automatically read Safari's local data.

Before uninstalling or clearing data

Create a current backup or confirm that the recovery method you intend to use is working. Browser cleanup tools can remove IndexedDB and other site storage, which may contain the local working copy of your records.

Updates should not interrupt active work

Cre8tive Apps uses a safe-update approach: a new version can download in the background, but activation waits until the app is not in the middle of an active form, modal, Capture flow or other unsaved workflow. If necessary, the waiting update activates on the next clean opening.
